Accusations flew as Waters railed against Musk, dubbing him a “thief” and a “gangsta” in an impassioned speech outside the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) headquarters. The occasion was marked by the recent dismissal of the CFPB Chief by Trump, a holdover from Biden’s administration, signaling a much-welcomed shift toward fiscal responsibility.

The disruption caused by this move has been noted by OMB Director Russ Vought, who remarked, “Pursuant to the Consumer Financial Protection Act, I have notified the Federal Reserve that CFPB will not be taking its next draw of unappropriated funding because it is not ‘reasonably necessary’ to carry out its duties. The Bureau’s current balance of $711.6 million is excessive in the current fiscal environment.” This prudent fiscal management represents a significant win for American taxpayers, as profligate government spending is being curtailed under Trump’s guidance.

Protests, albeit modest in scale, unfolded outside the CFPB headquarters. It seems the enthusiasm for these rallies has waned, as fewer participants appeared, possibly due to some financial backers not coming through this time. Yet, Democrats continue to express their dismay at the prospect of Trump, Musk, and the Republicans making strides in saving American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars.

With her characteristic flamboyance, Maxine Waters took to the microphone, initiating her rant with, “Elon Musk, where are you? Bring your ass over here so you can see who’s here and what we’re doing. We’re not afraid of you.” Referring to Musk as the “co-president” of the U.S., she implored her audience to scrutinize his actions. In an apparent defense of the CFPB, Waters reminisced about the pre-CFPB days, declaring, “Prior to this being organized in the Dodd-Frank reforms, consumers didn’t have any place to really file complaints… They didn’t have anywhere to go when the biggest banks in America was ripping them off.”

However, Waters’ narrative failed to acknowledge that the CFPB, under its unrestrained fiscal practices, had strayed far from its original intent. Her assertion that Musk’s aim is to dismantle these protections – solely because he is, as she claims, a “thief” and “gangster” – was an unfounded attack. “Trump has said, You give me enough money, you can have,” she claimed, ignoring the broader scope of fiscal improvement under Trump’s watch.
