Governor Ron DeSantis (R) of Florida has been a vocal opponent of the woke agenda and recently scored a win when the College Board, the company behind the Advanced Placement courses for high schoolers, released its revised curriculum for AP African American Studies.
The Governor had previously rejected the curriculum due to its inclusion of Critical Race Theory, intersectionality, and queer theory.
Unfortunately, CBS Mornings failed to give the Governor the credit he deserved. Instead, the segment treated the course as innocuous, with co-host Tony Dokoupil saying Florida had “decided to ban” it, as if they were guilty of an itchy trigger finger.
Brandi Waters, the AP African American director and program manager, boasted the “amazing” and “exciting” class would give “students…the opportunity to delve into the depths of African American experiences” by “see[ing] the diversity of these communities and the broader connections between the U.S. and the African diaspora.”
What the show failed to mention was Florida’s objections to the course, including its focus on political activism and its disregard for facts. The College Board CEO, David Coleman, and Brandi Waters failed to address these issues, instead opting to spout empty rhetoric about “unflinching encounters” and “letting students think for themselves.”
Even co-host Gayle King got it wrong when she said people were “criticizing the course who really hadn’t seen it and didn’t know anything about it?”
Nets Slam GOP For Trying For far too long, organizations such as College Board have been permitted to incorporate their political biases into their courses while ignoring the facts. The new AP African American Studies course from the College Board is no exception. The course contains woke terminology, radical ideologies, and political activism that have no place in a classroom setting. How To Ensure Voter Integrity
Governor DeSantis should be praised for standing up to the College Board’s agenda to indoctrinate students with radical ideologies. Children should be exposed to a balanced and accurate education, not one filled with woke terminology and political activism. The Governor is to be commended for recognizing the dangers of the College Board’s agenda and taking a stand.
