The recent death of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny has sparked a twisted reaction from radical Democrat Ted Lieu. The fifth-term congressman from California has a history of spouting anti-Trump rhetoric that makes him a hit on MSNBC, but his commentary on the Navalny death takes the cake.
In a recent appearance on “Alex Witt Reports,” Lieu actually attempted to blame President Donald Trump for Navalny’s death. Lieu pointed to a comment Trump made during a South Carolina campaign stop where he urged NATO allies to pay their bills and meet the required 2 percent of GDP spending on national defense. Lieu twisted Trump’s words, claiming that he gave Putin the “green light” to harm dissidents like Navalny.
“Why did Navalny all of a sudden die at this point in time?” Lieu asked. “I first of all, agree with President Biden that Russia is responsible for his death. Also, what happened in a few days leading up to his death? Well, we had former President Donald Trump essentially say that Russia should attack European countries. That is crazy. That is traitorous language. Russia certainly was listening, and I think they thought, hey, we now have a green light to do all sorts of crazy stuff.”
Lieu’s comments demonstrate the depths to which the Democratic Party, and the liberal media, have sunk to demonize Trump and his policies. While it is true that Russia is responsible for Navalny’s death, it is a stretch to pin the blame on Trump’s comments. This is just another example of the left’s desperate attempts to cling to the “Russia collusion” narrative and paint Trump as an illegitimate leader.
Anyone who has watched the news over the past few years knows that Trump has been a strong and vocal supporter of NATO and its mission. It is absurd to suggest that he would encourage Russia to attack European countries. In fact, his tough stance on NATO spending actually led to German Chancellor Angela Merkel changing her stance on the issue. However, Lieu seems to have conveniently forgotten these facts in his quest to demonize Trump.
The truth is, the true weakness lies with the current administration, not the one that left office in January 2021. In just a few short months, Biden’s actions have established him as a weak and ineffective leader, from his surrender of the southern border to his surrender of Afghanistan to his failure to respond to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and his betrayal of Israel during its war with Hamas. Putin knows this, and he knows that he can act with impunity under Biden’s leadership.
Instead of acknowledging this reality, Lieu chooses to peddle outlandish and baseless claims on a liberal news network.

This is just another example of how the Democratic Party has sunk to new lows, blinded by their Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s clear that they have no qualms about twisting the truth and ignoring facts to push their political agenda.
The American people deserve better than this kind of disingenuous and shallow rhetoric. As the 2024 election approaches, it’s only going to get worse.
