Furthermore, she uncritically repeated Biden’s claim that Republicans were not serious about securing the border because they rejected a bipartisan immigration deal in the Senate last month after Trump opposed it. What Vega fails to mention is that this “immigration” deal would have included more funding for foreign wars and allowed 5,000 illegal crossings per day before any security measures could be implemented.
The fact that CBS News thought it necessary to cover the border crisis demonstrates the establishment media’s recognition that they must help shape the narrative on illegal immigration. And yet, despite their efforts to spin the story, they allowed Ortiz to reveal alarming information about the negligence of the president and vice president. This raises the question of whether media outlets have been instructed to stick to establishment talking points while preparing for the possibility of the Biden administration being replaced.
