In the wake of the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, the liberal media machine has once again seized upon a moment of profound grief to advance its most extreme and un-American agenda. During a discussion on MSNBC, a network notorious for its anti-Second Amendment bias, so-called reporter Mike Spies of the pro-gun control outlet The Trace explicitly revealed the endgame that Democrats and their media allies have always desired: the wholesale confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens.
The segment, hosted by MSNBC’s Katy Tur, began with the kind of unsubstantiated, emotional rhetoric that has become the hallmark of the gun control movement. Without offering a shred of evidence, Tur boldly claimed, “The majority of Americans don’t own guns and the majority of Americans want stricter gun laws.” This statement conveniently ignores the undeniable fact that the number of firearms in civilian possession has soared to over 490 million as of 2022, a testament to a nation that deeply cherishes its constitutional right to self-defense. Rather than challenge this false narrative, Spies eagerly concurred, setting the stage for a radical proposal.
Spies lamented what he called a “lack of knowledge among lawmakers,” arguing that the political debate has been stuck on measures like background checks since the 1990s. After paying lip service to so-called “red flag laws,” which themselves represent a grave threat to due process, Spies then cut to the heart of the extremist position. He declared that the only solution is to be “honest” and admit the truth as he sees it, stating, “You have to be honest, and say what will actually work, which is what nobody wants to hear, which is that there are just simply way too many firearms, and they are way too accessible.”

Not content with this attack on the very foundation of the Second Amendment, Tur then prodded him further, leading the witness by asking, “And they’re way too powerful?” Spies obediently echoed this sentiment, revealing the true scope of the left’s ambitions.
He confirmed, “And they’re too powerful, even handguns too, again, that’s why in Australia … The only thing that really works, if you really wanted to bring down gun violence, was to do what Australia did and to do what many other countries in Europe do.” This is a direct call for a mandatory buyback and confiscation scheme, a policy that would see government agents going door-to-door to disarm peaceful Americans. This unthinkable proposal is a slap in the face to every patriot and a stark reminder of why the leadership of President Donald Trump, who has consistently and unequivocally defended our right to keep and bear arms, is so vital for the survival of our freedoms.
