Donald Trump appeared on ‘Sunday Morning Futures’ where he candidly discussed his first term as president. When asked if he felt his time in office was far from perfect, the former president quickly answered, “The mistake would be people. I mean, I wouldn’t have put a guy like Bill Barr, and he was weak and pathetic. I wouldn’t have put Jeff Sessions. And there are some people that I wouldn’t have put in.”
He went on to explain his reasoning, ‘You put somebody in, and you think they are good. All of a sudden, I’m the president of the United States, and it’s like a different society. I was New York, and, you know, it was a different thing. So I didn’t know people. I became president. I’m riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our first lady. I had 250 motorcycles. I had armies. I had everything. I said, do you believe it? We’re president. Take a look. This is wild, right? But I never was involved in that.’
One thing that is clear is that the work of draining the swamp was started by Trump, despite claims from his detractors saying otherwise. Trump made it very clear when he said, “I did, I fired Comey. I fired a lot of people. A lot of the people I had, I fired. I fired Comey very early. And, you know, there was a question as to whether or not you could. But I fired Comey.”
In contrast to Trump’s focus on draining the swamp, Joe Biden has failed to live up to his promises and has done very little to create an environment free of corruption. Instead of cleaning up government, Biden has surrounded himself with people who are just as feeble and unfit to serve as Trump’s allegedly “weak and pathetic” cabinet members.
This is indicative of Biden’s tendency to resort to the same tactics as his predecessor when it comes to selecting his cabinet. It is a testament to his failure to keep his promises to the voters and create a government free of swamp creatures.
It’s clear that Trump’s performance as President was far from perfect. His admission that he made mistakes regarding his cabinet appointments is commendable. But at least Trump had a focus on draining the swamp and removing corruption from government, while Biden has failed to make any meaningful progress on this front.
This is just one more example of how Biden has failed to keep his promises to the American people.
