For too long in Washington DC, politics has taken precedence over justice. Former President Donald Trump descended into that system this week to face an unjust investigation. He entered the Fulton County jail, fingerprints were taken, and his mug shot was captured – all under the false pretext that moral infractions occurred related to the 2020 election.
He stood before the press after his booking, rightfully angry that his right to challenge an election was being violated. With a measured yet frustrated tone, he asserted that it goes against the very grain of democracy to be held accountable for challenging the results of an election. Trump added that this only punishes people for speaking up against a broken system. The Biden Administration is exploiting the Department of Justice (DOJ) in an attempt to eliminate competition for the White House.
For his part, Trump said that his election challenge was against what he believed to be a stolen election — an election he has every right to oppose. He acknowledged that multiple individuals, from Hillary Clinton to Stacey Abrams, had done the same. Ultimately, the former President called the situation a travesty of justice, as he maintained his innocence and that of his supporters for any perceived wrong-doing.
Unfortunately, this arrest and the subsequent attempts to sideline Trump before the 2024 election are indicative of a greater, widespread problem as it relates to political corruption. House Democrats are now pushing for legislation to invoke the 14th amendment, in order to strip Trump of his eligibility to run again. This abuse of power is despicable and needs to be addressed.
The Biden Administration and those looking to eliminate competition for the White House seem to be resorting to extreme tactics in order to get their way. Donald Trump faced a gross violation of justice this week, and the trend of goings-on in Washington should worry all Americans, regardless of political stance.

It is clear that something must be done to puncture the bubble of corrupt political power in Washington DC. We must demand that elected officials at all levels are held accountable for their actions. There must always be a legitimate chance for a free and fair election. Which should include the ability to challenge election results.
