Well, this was only a matter of time but honestly, I’m a little shocked at the audacity of these news outlets- if we can call them that.
NBC News is being roundly and rightly condemned for their absolutely horrific take on the story of a Democratic congressional staffer being fired from his position after being caught on film having gay sex in a Senate hearing room.
The initial Daily Caller report did not identify the staffer, but numerous outlets later identified the man as 24-year-old Aidan Maese-Czeropski. Both he and Sen. Ben Cardin’s office have essentially confirmed the story, but NBC News chose to frame it as a case of Republicans pouncing on the report, not as a case of a Democratic staffer being caught in an illicit encounter.

The language NBC News used to describe the situation was particularly egregious, with the order of events and words used clearly indicating where their allegiance lies. “Sen. Ben Cardin’s office” was used instead of “Democratic senator,” and “parted ways” was chosen over the more accurate “fired.” The report also referred to the story as an “allegation,” despite the fact that it was posted on a Saturday afternoon, and as such, it had been confirmed multiple times over.

The “REPUBLICANS POUNCE!” trope is one that has been used before and is particularly nefarious. Establishment media outlets often use this language in order to absolve the Democratic party of any responsibility in a scandal and instead blame Republicans or conservative outlets for noticing. This has been used with other Democrats in similar situations, and it’s ridiculous to expect them to change course now.
Social media users also took notice of this incredibly biased language in NBC News’ coverage of the story, calling the outlet out for yet again inserting their own biases into their reporting. NBC News is clearly trying to shift the blame and make it seem like Republicans are at fault for breaking this story when, in reality, it was a legitimate news story that needed to be reported on. It’s frightening to think that an outlet that many people turn to for news could be so blatantly biased.
Here's how @USATODAY addressed the anti white bigot #MichelleWu's white exclusion party email, of course:

The story’s reporting itself was no better, with the lede focusing on the reportage rather than the incident. The headline read, “Democrats! Over a staffer got canned by Sen. Cardin’s office after a brouhaha over this thing I watched on Daily Caller dot com.”

The cadence and verbiage of that lede is clearly meant to portray the reporting as the most important part of the story, while the actual incident that took place is just a secondary piece of information.

The article goes straight into discussing the statement released by Cardin’s office and then delves into the reporting again, never properly addressing the incident itself. The fact that NBC News couldn’t even confirm the authenticity of the video before framing it as Republicans pouncing is absurd. It’s not rocket science to figure out that if the video was fake or if the man in it wasn’t actually Maese-Czeropski, he would have simply denied
