The police are our main deterrent against crime. They patrol areas and arrest those that break our laws. But the BLM movement has made some Dems think that are instead, evil racist abusers. But that’s not the case at all, and now many blue cities are seeing how bad things can be when they have neutered their police agencies. New York City is no different, when BLM took to the streets New York Mayor de Blasio decided to pander to them, and cut the police budget by a billion dollars. So now with crime skyrocketing, the mayor’s wife, Chirlane McCray, is asking citizens to intervene when they see violence. So they add another victim to a crime…
“Shootings in New York City doubled in 2020 and were up 75 percent last month compared to a year prior. Burglaries have also increased, and violent, unprovoked crimes against Asians have become endemic.”
McCray tweeted about her brilliant plan to unofficially deputized New Yorkers.
“As attacks on Asian American communities continue, we’re asking New Yorkers to show up for their neighbors and intervene when witnessing hateful violence or harassment. I know that can be frightening when you aren’t sure what to do or say, but you can learn.”
McCray “suggested that witnesses step into the middle of a “hate crime or incident” and engage directly with the person who is being targeted by asking a question like, “What time is it?”
She also advised that witnesses “respond directly to the aggressor or physically intervene and only after assessing the situation. Be confident, assertive, calm. This is risky, but sometimes all we can do is speak up.”
They could also “support a person in crisis by recording on your phone” and “check-in with the survivor after the incident. This shows them that they are valued.”
This is unreal. The Mayor defunded the police, and now New York Citizens are supposed to put themselves in danger to pick up the slack… Maybe if they just supported the very people that put their lives on the line daily for them, instead of defunding them, this would not be an issue right now… But I guess that would take a backbone and leadership that it seems de Blasio lacks.
