Turns out Andrew Cuomo’s replacement is no better when it comes to leading New York. New York’s new Governor, Kathy Hochul, is already declaring a state of emergency over the newest COVID strain, Omicron. But here’s the thing, this is more than too soon, there hasn’t been a single case recorded yet in the United States, and that includes New York. To top it off, the newest strain is supposedly mild. So where’s the emergency?
“New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) declared a state of emergency to prepare for a new coronavirus variant first identified in South Africa.
Hochul’s declaration on Friday is one of the first emergency steps taken by a state in the U.S. against the new variant, known as omicron, whose discovery was announced Thursday.”
She tweeted about it.
“We continue to see warning signs of spikes in COVID this winter, and while the new Omicron variant has yet to be detected in New York State, it’s coming. Today I signed an Executive Order to help @HealthNYGov boost hospital capacity ahead of potential spikes.”
“Through this action, we will also be able to acquire critical supplies more quickly to combat the pandemic. I urge New Yorkers to take advantage of our greatest weapon in this pandemic: the vaccine. Get vaccinated and get the booster as soon as you are able.”
“Hochul’s executive moves come despite the fact that New York has not recorded any cases of the Omicron variant.”
“Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) has admitted that it skipped naming the new variant “Xi” to avoid “stigma” to anyone who may be named that — an obvious concern related to the Chinese dictator.”
I get preventative care, but this is a bit much, especially after South African Doctors are saying it’s not a big deal, claiming it’s “very mild.” So “very mild” somehow equates to Gov. Hochul declaring a state of emergency…Seems like an overreaction.
