At this point, it might be safe to assume that dethroned former governor Andrew Cuomo still has friends in high places or some really juicy dirt on someone. It’s been a disappointing week after the DA announced that despite all of the evidence, Cuomo would not face criminal charges for sexual harassment.
The District Attorney’s office has now announced that Cuomo will not face charges on what might be his gravest offense—The countless deaths of elderly residents in New York’s nursing homes. Homes, that under his orders, were filled with Covid-positive patients during the early months of the pandemic.
Politico reported:
Prosecutors in Manhattan have concluded former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo did not break the law when his administration misled the public about the number of Covid-19 deaths tied to nursing homes, the Democrat’s former attorney said on Monday.
Elkan Abramowitz, who served as outside counsel to Cuomo’s office, said in a statement that the former governor was told Monday by the head of the Manhattan district attorney’s Elder Abuse Unit that the office had completed a “thorough investigation“ and would not bring charges.
“As we have said all along — there was no evidence to suggest that any laws were broken,” Abramowitz said in the statement.
Basically, the two biggest crimes Cuomo has been accused of committing, don’t matter to the DA.
Cuomo’s spokesman forwarded a statement from Elkan Abramowitz, an attorney who had repped the governor’s office under Cuomo.
“I was contacted today by the head of the Elder Care Unit from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office who informed me they have closed its investigation involving the Executive Chamber and nursing homes,” Abramowitz said.
“I was told that after a thorough investigation — as we have said all along — there was no evidence to suggest that any laws were broken.”
The Post reported last August that the state Health Department had retained an outside law firm to deal with inquiries regarding nursing home decisions from the Manhattan DA’s Office as well as state Attorney General Letitia James and the US Attorney for the Eastern District.
Just throwing this out there; the Cuomos and the Clintons have enjoyed a long, mutually beneficial friendship going back to Andrew’s father, Mario’s days in office. The way that the DA outright refused to go after Cuomo on any criminal charges (thus far) reminds me, very much, of the Clintons.
What about you?
