Singer John Rich has liberals beside themselves with his new hit “Progress” where the country music legend tells Biden and his buddies to stick their “progress where the sun don’t shine”. The song represents the frustration of many and highlights the politically driven division between Americans. The first verse, “there’s a hole in this country, where it’s heart used to be” discusses how politicians have driven a wedge straight through average families.
Then it references societal division as symbolized by the burning of the American flag, while videos of fiery protests play in the background:
Old Glory’s divided on fire in the street.
After that, he dismisses President Biden’s virus relief and response bill:
They say building back better, will make America great
If that’s a wave of the future all I’ve got to say is….
Then the chorus rings out, which underscores the MAGA meaning of the lyrics:
Stick your progress where the sun don’t shine
Keep your big mess away from me and mine
If you leave us alone we’d all be just fine.
Rich also hit home, opening discussions about the border crisis and horrific tragedy known as the Afghan withdrawal:
They invite the whole world to come live in our land
And leave our countrymen dying in Afghanistan.
He weights big government over Christianity, sustainability, and the family unit:
They say let go of Jesus and let Government save
You can have back your freedoms if you do what we say
They Shutdown our pipelines and they shut down our voices
And they shutdown our main streets
And they shutdown our choices.
Rich wraps up the song with a battle cry, warning liberals that Americans are fed up:
They bent us all over but it’s all over now
Because we figured it out
We ain’t backing down
Rich explained why he wrote the song in an interview:
“I wrote it because I’m so frustrated with everything going on, like everybody. But the irony struck me so hard that all these things happening to our country right now are being done under the banner of progress, of that word. I’m like, this is what you call progress? And you look on the news and you see all the terrible things happening, and this is progress to them, to the people that are doing it. I thought, okay, this deserves a song. So I set out and wrote the song, ‘Stick your progress where the sun don’t shine’. ‘Keep your big mess away from me and mine’. ‘If you’d leave us alone, well, we’d all be just fine’. ‘So stick your progress where the sun don’t shine’. And I put it out and I thought, well, I hope people like it. I look up and they go, hey John, you might want to check the chart. You’re at number one. You just knocked Lizzo out of number one. It’s pretty crazy.”
