ABC’s World News Tonight is once again proving itself to be the primary source of pro-Biden rhetoric among the major national network evening newscasts. In tonight’s broadcast, their report on events in Ukraine, the border, and former President Trump’s recent comments on NATO was almost indistinguishable from a White House press briefing.
In the report’s closing, anchor David Muir and Senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce echo almost all of the usual Democrat talking points regarding the failed border deal and the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
After Muir introduces Bruce, she proceeds to recite some choice quotes from President Biden regarding Trump and NATO. She then moves on to focus on the recently passed Senate bill related to Ukraine, and pushes for its acceptance, saying that it was a bipartisan agreement that has not been seen in years. She speaks directly to the Republicans, who were pushing for the border deal to be included with the Ukraine funding, but failed to accept it.
Bruce expresses disappointment that the Senate bill, which the Republicans had been asking for, was ultimately rejected. She attributes this rejection to Trump’s influence and the Republican’s desire to deny Biden a win on immigration. She then reveals that House Republicans are attempting to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas – the Department of Homeland Security Secretary – and failed last week, but are now making another attempt.
The report begins with Bruce presenting Biden’s response to Trump’s comments on NATO, before moving on to the border controversy. She expresses dissatisfaction with the Republican Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, for not giving the Senate bill the time of day. According to Bruce, the Senate bill included everything that the Republicans had been demanding, yet it was rejected. However, this is not entirely truthful, as there were many concerns among Republicans about the content of the bill, which, in their view, would have only served to perpetuate the ongoing immigration crisis along the southern border.
In the final segment of the report, Muir and Bruce switch gears to criticize House Republicans for not passing the Senate bill. The anchor and correspondent insinuate that the Republicans are rejecting bipartisanship by not accepting the bill, as opposed to simply rejecting a deeply flawed immigration proposal. This hypocritical framing is rarely used when the media report on the actions of Democrats.
The report inaccurately portrays the Republican’s rejection of the Senate bill as a rejection of bipartisanship. It also attempts to villainize Trump and Republicans for influencing the rejection, while ignoring the actual concerns and criticisms that led to the bill’s defeat.
This bias and dishonesty only serves to further the open-border agenda being pushed by the Biden administration and their allies in the media.
