This crap never ends!
The recent decision by Denver Public Schools to change the girls’ bathroom at East High School into an “all-gender” restroom has sparked controversy among students and parents alike. Critics argue that this move disproportionately affects female students who have lost one of their few private spaces. The decision is seen by some as a clear example of prioritizing a political agenda over the comfort and rights of the students. “Why is it always women who must sacrifice their rights to accommodate the gender confused?” ask concerned parents and students.
As students returned from winter break, they were greeted with the surprise of a significant change in their bathroom facilities. Their girl’s bathroom on the second floor, once a space of privacy and comfort, has been transformed into an all-gender restroom. Lori Ramos, a parent of an East High School student, expressed her disapproval during a school board meeting, stating, “We, as adults, should be protecting students at all costs. Not using minors for this social experiment.”
Ramos and other critics argue that such changes are not only impractical but “unlawful, immoral, and a form of abuse,” as the rights and comfort of female students are seemingly brushed aside for what they see as a questionable initiative. On the other hand, Denver Public School Director Scott Pribble has defended the policy, describing it as a “convenience for everybody.” However, as Ramos pointed out, this convenience does not seem to extend to the girls who are now required to share a space they once had to themselves.
Pribble explained that the decision arose because students were often “late to the next class because the one or two single-stall bathrooms that they had to accommodate this just wasn’t enough for the need that was out there.” Yet, the idea of using the multi-stall restroom that corresponds to one’s gender is dismissed, leading many to believe that the administration is more interested in appearing progressive than addressing student concerns.
Critics argue that converting a boy’s restroom or building a new facility altogether were alternatives that were overlooked. “Taking out urinals would be too hard!” highlight detractors sarcastically, frustrated at the perceived negligence concerning female students’ privacy and comfort. Pribble claims that converting the girls’ room was simply easier due to existing infrastructure, raising questions about the administration’s commitment to fairness and safety.

Many parents and students feel that women’s rights and safety are being compromised for trends. This move reflects poorly on the school’s lamentable prioritization choices, critics argue.
