Comer Rips Minnesota’s Anti-ICE Chaos

House Oversight Chairman James Comer went on Fox News to call out what he sees as chaos around an ICE operation in Minneapolis. He was blunt. Short. Direct.

Comer focused on two things. The federal mission to arrest criminal noncitizens. And local officials who, he says, have been defiant.

“I don’t think there is any question that a majority of Americans want President Trump and ICE to go in and apprehend the criminal illegals. That’s what President Trump campaigned on, and he’s doing exactly what he said,” Comer said.

He compared two cities to make a point. One cooperated with federal authorities. The other resisted.

“I look at what happened in Minneapolis versus what happened in Washington DC. When President Trump took the National Guard into Washington DC, the Mayor, Mayor Muriel Bowser, supported that. She worked, her local law enforcement worked with the President, and in a short period of time, they have really been successful in reducing the amount of crime in Washington DC,” Comer continued.

Then he turned to Minneapolis.

“Fast forward to where we are in Minneapolis. We have a Governor, an Attorney General, and a Mayor of Minneapolis who are getting people jacked up, trying to get them, you know, convinced that this is, you know, some type of illegal raid,” Comer said.

Comer said ordinary Minnesotans want dangerous people removed. He insisted ICE is trying to do that job.

At the same time, Fox host Maria Bartiromo flagged uncertainty about the shooting itself. “We do not know if there was any pushback from this individual, who was armed. We do not have evidence that he was waving a gun, doing anything to threaten Border Patrol,” Bartiromo said. “That’s what he was doing, recording the incident,” Bartiromo said.

Comer echoed the caution on facts. “I’m like you and every other American. I’ve watched that video dozens of times in slow motion. I’ve tried to determine whether he actually pulled a gun out, or not. I don’t know,” Comer explained.

But he tied the shooting back to local rhetoric. “We played a soundbite earlier from Governor Tim Walz who told residents to make sure to film ICE agents. And I imagine that this individual had taken that directive and was filming ICE agents,” Bartiromo commented.

Comer warned that public safety suffers when local leaders block federal action. He urged cooperation instead of confrontation. Short of full clarity on the shooting, he said the bigger story is failing to enforce the law.
