Jimmy Kimmel Takes Two-Month Break, Hands Show to Rosie O’Donnell
Jimmy Kimmel says he is stepping away from Jimmy Kimmel Live! for two months. He made the announcement on Thursday’s show and said the break is happening by choice.
“I will be taking the next two months off, this time voluntarily,” Kimmel told viewers.
ABC is not leaving the slot empty. A rotating group of guest hosts will fill in while Kimmel is gone, with Rosie O’Donnell leading the lineup. Others set to appear include Tiffany Haddish, Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson and Jelly Roll.
Introducing O’Donnell, Kimmel joked, “I asked one of our commander-in-chief’s all-time favorites, Rosie O’Donnell, to be here to keep the hits coming.”

O’Donnell has spent much of the past year living in Ireland after leaving the U.S. following Donald Trump’s re-election victory. When she talked about the move, she said, “I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,”

Her feud with Trump has gone on for years, but it picked up again after he posted about her on Truth Social last year. In his post, Trump wrote, “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,”
He added, “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA.”

Kimmel is expected to return later this summer. For now, the show looks set to keep its usual mix of celebrity guests and political jabs while he is off the air.
