Trump’s Racy Nicki Minaj Joke Takes Center Stage at Michigan Rally
President Trump gave rapper Nicki Minaj a provocative shout-out during a Sunday rally in Port Huron, Michigan. Minaj joined Trump at the event to campaign for Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers.
The remark came as Trump revisited jokes that have drawn criticism from the media. Those earlier comments focused on the physique of incumbent Ohio Senator Jon Husted, whom Trump has described in unusually colorful terms during recent rallies.
Trump told supporters that he had been studying Husted’s build, despite saying that doing so was not normally his thing.
“And, I’m studying his body. I’ve never studied the body of a man before. It’s not my thing… But I looked at his ass. And then I looked at his legs, and it might— I said, his ass is like— It’s like—It’s like a pile of muscle,” Trump said at a recent rally.
He continued the bit by discussing Husted’s legs, feet, and shoulders. “Then I looked at his legs, and I said, man, his feet are big! Then I looked at his shoulders, and I tapped him on the shoulder, and it actually hurt my hand. It was like a piece of steel.”
The remarks sparked outrage in the media, with some suggesting that Trump was losing it or questioning whether he might be gay. Trump used his Michigan appearance to answer those attacks in his own blunt style.
“I made the mistake: I told in fun, I said, ‘I looked at his ass, and I’ve never done that with a man before.’ It’s true,” he told the crowd while recounting his recent jokes about Husted.
Trump then added, “Off the record, women yes, men no, okay?”
He followed that line with a comment about Minaj.
“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before: Nicki Minaj. That’s hard to miss! Stand up! That’s hard to miss!”
Trump then tried to move back to the rest of his story while making clear that he hoped Minaj was not offended.
“Okay, I’m going to get back to my story, Nicki. I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicky. She’s been with us for a long time,” he said.
He then turned his criticism toward what he called the “fake news” media for obsessing over his earlier comments.
