WATCH: Steven Cheung Fires Back After Ted Lieu’s Trump Drug Claim
Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu sparked a fresh fight Wednesday after he suggested President Trump was taking a special drug because he was terminally ill. The claim came after Trump abruptly announced that he was canceling a housing bill signing ceremony until the SAVE America Act is passed.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency. Thank you for your attention to this matter,”
Lieu then went after Trump’s decision to cancel the event. “Inflation is up. Grocery prices are up. Utility costs are up. Housing prices are up. We have a bipartisan housing bill that both the Congress and Senate passed. There was supposed to be a big signing ceremony today in the Capitol, and then all of a sudden Donald Trump decides he’s not coming to sign the bill,” Lieu said.
He kept going from there. “Well, why is that? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Is he unable to stay awake today? What’s causing him to chicken out again? Is it Taco Wednesday, or is it side effects from a drug? We don’t know,” Lieu said.
Lieu then added, “He has weakness, swelling…one person in America got this special new drug is a 79-year-old … this drug can only be given to someone who has a terminal illness!” He followed that with, “The White House needs to come clean…Did Donald Trump get this special drug?”
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung quickly answered online and did not hold back. He wrote, “Ted Lewd is a dumbass. He probably spent hours laughing to himself thinking that peddling this lie would be funny. Sadly for Ted, there’s no special new drug to cure being a bitch,”
Cheung also posted the message on X, where the exchange spread fast. The clash added another loud round to the ongoing back-and-forth between Trump allies and Democrats over the president’s schedule, his health, and the housing bill fight.
