Jessica Tarlov Says She Wishes Trump Had Won in 2020 — WATCH

Jessica Tarlov, a Democratic strategist and rotating cohost of The Five, is looking back at the 2020 election with a very different view. In a recent interview with The New Yorker, she said she wishes Donald Trump had won because the country might have been finished with him by now.

“I believe without COVID that Trump would have won re-election, and I wish that he had. I wish we were done now,” Tarlov said.

Millions of Trump supporters will have a blunt response: HE DID. Tarlov appears to mean that she wishes Trump had been declared the winner and served those four years as president. Her larger point, though, was clear. She believes Trump’s time away from the White House helped him prepare for another run.

Tarlov compared Trump to Ursula, the Disney villain, and said he came back stronger after four years outside the presidency.

“Because he, like Ursula, got stronger in those four years. He established a cadre of advisors that understood the challenge. Like, Russ Vought wasn’t as powerful round one. Stephen Miller is certainly not as powerful. Project 2025, not a thing, right?”

She also blamed Democrats for failing to turn their policy ideas into simple, memorable campaign messages. “I hate that we gave them four years to take a sledgehammer to the country, and [the Democrats] haven’t found a way to deliver our vision for the future in simple slogans.”

When host David Remnick asked whether Democrats were “too decorous” or “too mild,” Tarlov admitted that her party needs better political messaging.

“I don’t know,” Tarlov answered. “I mean, I have a Ph.D, so I get it. I get why it’s interesting to write a big policy paper or dig deep into what happened. But for me, it’s like, just give me the bumper stickers. Where’s your ‘no tax on tips’? But we, like good liberals, have ingested all of these learnings and have yet to spit something out that can win an election on our ideas and our merits, and not just not being the other guy.”

For Republicans, the comments amount to an unexpected admission. Tarlov says the time away from office did not weaken Trump. In her view, it gave him stronger allies, better preparation, and another opportunity to challenge Democrats who still have not found a message that stands on its own.
