Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is facing fresh scrutiny after a police dossier reportedly suggested he exchanged messages with disgraced banker Daniel Vorcaro, according to The New York Times, as cited by The Gateway Pundit.
The central allegation remains unresolved. A fellow justice reportedly made public a police dossier suggesting that Moraes exchanged dozens of messages with Vorcaro. The banker allegedly pleaded with Moraes in emails for help avoiding arrest.
The report also says Vorcaro mentioned paying millions of dollars to the law firm run by Moraes’s wife. Police have not determined what Moraes wrote in response, and they have not established whether he helped Vorcaro in any way.
That unanswered question has not stopped the controversy from becoming a major political issue. The report says the allegations have outraged Brazilians, intensified calls to hold Moraes and the Supreme Court accountable, and injected new tension into a presidential election just weeks away.
The scandal comes after years of fierce criticism over Moraes’s handling of political opponents and social media platforms. The account revisits his treatment of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, saying Moraes sent Bolsonaro back to prison immediately after the former president’s eighth surgery related to the aftermath of a 2018 assassination attempt. Moraes has also been at the center of a public confrontation with Elon Musk and X, formerly known as Twitter. According to the report, Moraes demanded that Musk appoint a company representative in Brazil. Musk did not comply.
Moraes then ordered Brazilian authorities to block Starlink accounts in the country, with the stated purpose of securing payment of fines imposed on X. He also directed Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency to take steps against X’s operations. The report says Apple and Google were instructed to remove the X app from their stores.
Musk and X responded by announcing a daily release of allegations involving Moraes and Brazilian law. Musk argued that X was willing to follow the laws of each country, but objected to being ordered to break Brazilian law while being threatened with punishment for revealing those demands. He also accused Moraes of repeatedly violating Brazil’s constitution and described him as an oathbreaker.
Those posts turned a courtroom fight into a global political dispute, putting Brazil’s censorship policies and judicial power under a much brighter spotlight.
The new dossier now threatens to move the controversy beyond free-speech battles and into questions about possible financial ties. The account does not establish what happened inside the alleged message exchange. It does make clear that the accusations have created a serious political problem for Brazil’s highest court.
For conservatives who have long accused Moraes of using the judiciary to silence opposition, the allegations reinforce concerns that the justice has operated with too little accountability. For now, however, the most serious claims remain allegations, and the report says key evidence about Moraes’s response and any possible assistance to Vorcaro has not been determined.
