Virginia Man Faces Charges After Allegedly Tying Wife to Basement Chair During Football Game
A 64-year-old Richmond, Virginia man is facing criminal charges after police said he tied his wife to a chair in the basement of their home while he watched a football game upstairs.
The man, identified as Terry Ward, allegedly restrained his wife during the October 11 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Atlanta Falcons. The Ravens won that game 30-23 in overtime.
According to Virginia Statewide Incidents LLC, Richmond Police received a call at approximately 11:30 p.m. about a reported domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they spoke with an adult woman who identified herself as Ward’s wife.
The woman reportedly told police that Ward had tied her to a chair with tape in the basement. She said she remained restrained for approximately 30 to 45 minutes while Ward watched the game alone upstairs.
Police also reported seeing marks and sticky tape residue around both of the woman’s arms. The responding officer documented Ward allegedly admitting that he had tied his wife up and placed her in the basement.
“When I arrived on scene, [name redacted] stated that her husband had tied her to a chair with tape in the basement,” a police officer said in a criminal complaint filed in Richmond court that Virginia Statewide Incidents LLC viewed.
The complaint also states: “Ward Terry stated that he did indeed tied his wife [name redacted] to a chair and place[d] her down in the basement.”
Ward has been charged with felony abduction and misdemeanor assault on a family member, according to court documents obtained by Virginia Statewide Incidents LLC. The charges are allegations, and the court proceedings remain ongoing.
Court records viewed by Virginia Statewide Incidents LLC show that Ward’s arraignment and bond hearing were continued earlier this week. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 10 in Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
