Associated Press reported:
“Police Scotland said a 36-year-old man was arrested late Friday after officers received multiple reports of attacks in the west and north of the city.
The force said five men — two aged 22, and others aged 24, 27 and 39 — sustained a range of injuries and three needed hospital treatment. None of the injuries is considered life-threatening.”
Video posted on social media appeared to show a shirtless man carrying a long weapon roaming a street and battering a restaurant door in the Scottish capital. Another video seemed to show the same man on the ground shouting about “protecting the country” while being held by a police officer.

Images shared online also showed the man being detained by officers while he ranted: “I’m protecting the country from these f***ing Muslim bastards raping our young daughters”.
The injuries were serious enough to send three of the victims to hospital, but police said none of them is in a life-threatening condition. That detail matters. It means the city is dealing with a brutal public safety scare, but the immediate medical outlook is better than it could have been.
Sky News also described the incident this way:

“A 36-year-old man has been arrested after a series of violent attacks across Edinburgh, appearing to target Muslims, which left five people injured.”
Police have not publicly laid out a final motive, and the investigation is still active. For now, the big questions are simple: what set this off, why the weapon was carried into busy streets, and whether more victims were narrowly avoided.
