QVC’s Toni Brattin Explains the Live-TV “Blowout” Slip That Sent Her Under the Set

QVC personality and beauty entrepreneur Toni Brattin is having a very public laugh at her own expense.

During a live wig demonstration, Brattin meant to describe a salon “blowout.” Instead, the wrong word came out. The mistake was immediate, unmistakable, and impossible to take back.

“Again, it looks like you went and got a blowjob at your… a blowout at your ssssalon,” Brattin said while demonstrating the texture and waves of her Salon Select Wig.

She quickly realized what had happened. Brattin froze, whispered a mortified “Oh my God,” and tried to keep the presentation moving with, “And it looks beautiful.” That did not last long. She burst into laughter and ducked out of frame while co-host Terri Conn worked to keep the beauty pitch going.

The clip spread quickly online. In a follow-up with TMZ, Brattin explained that live television requires her to juggle several things at once. She is thinking about the models, mannequin heads, colors, product details, and the next position needed to show the wig properly.

After nearly three decades in television and shopping channels, she said the presentation process can become automatic. This time, that autopilot moment produced a very different phrase than the one she intended.

Toni Brattin: “Well, you know, I’ve been doing television and the shopping channels for, like, almost 30 years now. So, you know, you would think it’s old hat, and usually it is. But I know, like in my case, sometimes you never really know what’s going to come out of my mouth. I mean, because when we’re doing a show, you’re always—your mind is going 50 directions. You’re thinking of your models, you’re thinking of the mannequin heads, going through the colors.
You’re thinking of the next positioning to get all the information out to the customers that they’re wanting, right? So, your brain is really kind of multi-functioning, and you’re kind of in autopilot when you’re talking because you’ve said this so many times. So, the fact that when I said what I said, what I meant to say was a “blowout.” Obviously, it didn’t come out that way.
And so, at the moment it comes out, you almost say to yourself, “Did I just say what I think I said?” Right? So, it was one of those moments. And, of course, you can’t grab those words back. They’re out there. So, at the time, I was thinking—and I tried to, real quick, correct it and say the correct terminology, a “blowout” at Drew’s Salon.
But by then, obviously, everyone caught it. I was hearing snickering. And then, you know, when you’re not supposed to laugh, it just makes it that much more funny. I got, this morning, the standard, “Toni, we understand what happened during your show yesterday, and we really appreciate—” And they’re so kind. I mean, I’ve only been doing this for almost 30 years, so to have a blooper like this just innocently come out, you have to go with it.
And as long as we all feel like we’re respectful, that nothing was intentional—and, of course, it wasn’t—in hindsight, they said, “I hope you’re able to not be mortified and that you can laugh about it today and in the future. You know, you did a great job throwing it over to your show host and letting her just kind of get the camera.”
We went to the next model that was coming up, and, of course, unfortunately, they saw me melting. So, yes, I did melt.”

Brattin said QVC treated her kindly after the slip and encouraged her to laugh about the harmless mistake. She also acknowledged that viewers saw her trying not to lose it as the segment moved on to the next model.
