Lame duck President Joe Biden has once again shown his true colors, attacking House Speaker Mike Johnson for daring to stand against his radical agenda. In a stunning display of disrespect, Biden lashed out at Johnson after he correctly pointed out that Biden’s proposal to change the rules for appointing Supreme Court justices has no chance of passing in the House.
During a press conference in Austin, Texas, a reporter called out to Biden, asking for his reaction to Johnson’s comments that his Supreme Court reform is “dead on arrival.” Without missing a beat, Biden sneered, “I think that’s what he is.” And to make it even clearer, moments later Biden added, “That he is – dead on arrival.” Such dismissiveness and arrogance towards someone who opposes his ideas is truly troubling.
Biden’s plan to impose term limits on Supreme Court justices is a desperate attempt to gain control over the Court, as the conservative rulings in recent years have undermined his progressive agenda. Under his proposal, justices would serve for 18 years instead of for life, a move that would fundamentally alter the balance of power on the Court. But House Speaker Johnson was right to call this out as a “dangerous gambit,” one that would surely be “dead on arrival” in the House.
To add insult to injury, Biden also wants to impose strict ethics requirements on the Court, demanding that justices disclose gifts, refrain from public political action, and recuse themselves from cases with potential conflicts. Such attempts to erode the independence of the judiciary and politicize the Supreme Court are dangerous and must be rejected.
Former Attorney General William Barr and First Liberty Institute CEO Kelly Shackelford hit the nail on the head in their scathing Op-Ed for Fox News, where they called out Biden’s proposal as a “Supreme Court coup” that would jeopardize our democratic republic. They highlighted the hypocrisy of Biden, who once said that changing the structure of the Court was a “bonehead idea” that would threaten its independence. Yet now, he is pushing for just that.

Biden’s plan is nothing more than a power grab, an attempt to destroy the balance of powers and turn the Supreme Court into another partisan body. And this is coming from a man who claims to champion unity and bipartisanship. It is clear that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are willing to destroy the integrity of our highest court in their pursuit to push through their radical agenda.
We cannot let this happen. As Barr and Shackelford rightly said, Americans who care about their freedoms must speak up and stand up against this egregious attempt to undermine our judicial system. We must reject Biden’s proposal and protect the separation of powers that makes our nation strong. Otherwise, we risk losing the very foundations of our democracy.
