We’ve all heard the same argument: white women are apparently voting for Republican candidates and perpetuating the “patriarchy”. That’s right, according to liberal media and “The View”, white women are solely responsible for the GOP’s political success.
They’re either too “in line” with their husbands, too concerned about protecting the interests of their sons, or too just plain M.I.A. from the ballot box. Sunny Hostin, one of the show’s co-hosts, even went so far as to say that former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley changed her name to hide her ethnicity in order to succeed as a Republican.
We’d all like to think that political views are based on logic and reason, but Sunny Hostin’s rhetoric is an insult to voters everywhere. All races and genders should have the freedom to vote based on the issues that matter to them, not based on any sense of loyalty to a party. To suggest that all white women vote the same way, with the same purpose, is dangerous generalization.
It’s true that Republican women often receive more scrutiny than their male or Democratic counterparts—we’ve seen it most recently with the confirmation battle over Brett Kavanaugh—but that doesn’t mean they’re blindly following a script. White women’s voices are diverse and their experiences unique, and they should be judged as such.
This type of political bias and condescension isn’t limited to one network or political party, but it’s become a primary message coming from the liberal media. The Democratic and Republican parties have long been at an impasse, and that’s why we need to continue to promote political dialog and discuss issues without judgment.
White women—and all women, for that matter—should be able to support the candidates of their choosing without fear of being labeled as a “protectors of the patriarchy”. Most importantly, we should all strive to respect each other’s opinions and contributions to the political discourse.
Now, on a personal note: This ridiculous argument pisses me off on such a deep level. Firstly; you have the liberal left, yet again, telling women how to think. Second, women are not mindless zombies who will just blindly vote however their husbands tell them to—Sexist much? It never seems to fail, the ones screaming all the isms (sexism, racism, etc) are the ones committing the absolute most.
Are Republicans perfect? Absolutely not but most women who vote GOP do so because it’s the party that supports their values. Not all women support big government, abortions, and higher taxes…
I couldn’t see being associated with the same party that slutshamed Clinton’s accusers.
