Kodak Black Arrested in Florida on MDMA Trafficking Charge
Rapper Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, was arrested Wednesday in Florida and booked into the Orange County Corrections Department on a trafficking MDMA charge. Police records reported by XXL say the 28-year-old was taken into custody in Orange County, and Page Six later confirmed the arrest and mugshot.
According to his attorney, Bradford Cohen, the detention was tied to what he called a “coordinated surrender” in a case that goes back to November 2025. Cohen said the issue started with a vehicle search in which Kodak was not present. During that search, an officer reportedly found a bag containing a bottle of prescription cough syrup that allegedly had Kodak’s fingerprint on it.
“This is a case where the law is not sufficient to charge possession of the item,” Cohen explained. “Then instead of simple possession, they doubled down and filed it as a trafficking charge.”
He added, “We look forward to yet another fruitful resolution to another case that should have never been filed,” he said.

Kodak Black has been arrested in Florida for drug trafficking.
On Wednesday (May 6), Yak was booked in Orange County, Fla., according to police records obtained by XXL. He faces one count of trafficking MDMA, a synthetic, psychoactive drug with stimulant and hallucinogenic effects.
Authorities also said they found $37,000 in cash in the vehicle, along with documents under the name Bill Kapri. TMZ reported that investigators believed the bag matched one Kodak had shown in a recent Instagram photo. Officers also noted a gun-shaped lighter inside the bag that they said looked similar to one he had displayed before on social media.
The arrest adds another chapter to a long list of legal problems for the rapper. His past charges have included armed robbery, false imprisonment, weapons possession, and sexual assault. In March 2020, he pleaded guilty to firearms possession and served time in federal prison before President Donald Trump commuted his sentence in June of that year.
He was arrested again in January 2022 for trespassing in Pompano Beach, Florida, and weeks later pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and battery, receiving 18 months of probation.
Kodak has also spoken publicly about substance use. After a December 2023 arrest for cocaine possession in Plantation, Florida, he said, “I’ll tell God himself I do Percs and s-t like that, but them was my medicine prescribed to me,” referring to medication he said followed a 2022 gunshot wound to his leg. He later admitted his use had grown worse over time, saying, “Even before I got shot and I had got prescribed to them again, I could say that I had started damn abusing.”
He also said he had taken steps to get healthier. “I’m working on myself. I’m working right now, homie,” he said. “I paid $350,000 and s-t to get clean and get better. I’ve done went to rehab by myself without the court having to tell me to do that. Just me wanting to better myself.”
As a father of five, he said his children were part of what pushed him to try to change. “I got children, homie, and I have to be here for them. I never have enough time on the streets to even be no junkie.”
