Meanwhile, Obama, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate himself, failed to support Mohammadi and the Iranian democracy movement in 2009 when they took to the streets to protest election fraud. Eli Lake, writing for Bloomberg, called this a “great hypothetical” in Obama’s presidency, questioning what could have been if he had shown more solidarity with the protesters. Obama’s initial silence and reluctance to acknowledge the election fraud were not surprising, given his desire to secure a deal with Iran over its nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, to seal the deal, Obama even released pallets of cash to the mullahs in secret, undetected flights. Despite breaking the deal numerous times, Obama’s administration continued to appease the mullahs, further betraying the Iranian people and their fight for freedom.
Now, after abandoning the democracy activists in Iran and directly contributing to the oppression and injustice faced by Mohammadi, Obama has the audacity to offer congratulations and praise. He joins the bandwagon of supporters, showcasing his hollow words and empty gestures. Yet the truth remains: Obama, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has blood on his hands, and his actions speak louder than his words of admiration.
In the end, Obama’s congratulations to Mohammadi are merely a facade, masking the truth of his betrayal and complicity in the Iranian regime’s oppression. His actions have proven that his priority was never to support democracy and human rights but rather to appease and accommodate dictators. Mohammadi and the Iranian people deserved and still deserve more than mere words, and it’s time for Obama to face the consequences of his actions and take responsibility for the suffering he helped perpetuate in Iran. As Thomas Jefferson once said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” It’s time for Obama to open that chapter and be honest about his role in the oppression of the Iranian people.
