Joe Biden is facing a historic illegal immigration crisis on the southern border that is only set to get worse this week. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), whose congressional district is on the U.S.-Mexico border, recently criticized the Biden administration for its loose border policies, saying “the only image that we see is people coming in. No images of people going back.”
The crisis has been caused by Biden’s decision to roll back Trump-era border policies and end the “remain in Mexico” policy. Instead of discouraging illegal immigration, Biden has created a “pull factor” that has caused a flood of migrants to the border. According to Cuellar, the crisis is so bad that there are now migrants from “over 60 countries,” saying that “it’s almost like a mini U.N. down there.”
The Biden administration has tried to address the crisis by negotiating a new immigration deal with Mexico. Under the deal, Mexico will accept migrants from certain South American countries, while the U.S. will not accept Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans who cross illegally.
Unfortunately, this deal does not address the root cause of the problem: Biden’s loose border policies. As Cuellar put it, “you got to have some repercussions because if you don’t have repercussions at the border, people are going to see the border as a speed bump, and they’ll be coming in at this time.”
It’s clear that Biden’s immigration policies are not working. Instead of helping to reduce illegal immigration, they are causing a historic crisis on the southern border. This crisis is only going to worsen unless the Biden administration takes steps to address the root cause of the problem: his own policies. It’s time for Biden to act and put an end to this crisis before it’s too late.
