One key issue for many voters is the economy, which has been a major concern since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. A black voter from Philadelphia, Naomi Miller, spoke out in a NewsNation segment, saying that he plans to vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. Despite any personal opinions on Trump, Miller believes that his policies are what matter most, especially when looking at the impact they have on people’s lives.
Miller states, “It doesn’t matter about whether you like him or not, it matters about his policies. And people are not doing good out here with the Democrats.” This sentiment aligns with recent economic data, which shows a significant increase in prices since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January 2021. The consumer price index, a key measurement of inflation, hit a four-decade high of 9% in June 2022. Additionally, gas prices have risen by over 20% since January 2021, with the average price for a gallon under $2.25 under Trump’s leadership, according to GasBuddy.com.
In contrast, under President Biden, the CPI grew by 1.4% in January 2021, and his approval rating on the economy is currently at only 38.8%. This is a significant drop from Trump’s administration. Inflation has also been a major concern for many Americans, with only 34.8% giving Biden good marks on his handling of it. These economic concerns have led Miller to declare, “It’s time to make a statement with Trump.”
However, Miller is not the only Pennsylvanian voter who feels this way. Deanna Beloschtsky, another voter from the swing state, has also decided to support Trump’s policies. She highlights the issue of abortion rights as one of her main reasons for backing Trump, stating, “When we are talking about freedom and rights, I feel like Harris is more fighting for everybody’s rights, and she’s more open to reproductive rights, which is very important to me.”
Despite the media’s constant portrayal of Biden and Harris as defenders of women’s rights, this voter sees Trump’s policies as more aligned with her beliefs. This is crucial for Beloschtsky, as abortion rights are a deeply personal and significant issue for many Americans, particularly women. With Harris proposing to empower the Federal Trade Commission to impose “harsh penalties” for “price gouging” by grocery stores, and stating her desire to raise the corporate tax rate, it is clear that her policies may negatively impact the economy and could potentially harm small businesses and consumers.

Overall, both Miller and Beloschtsky are committed to voting for Trump in the upcoming election. As shown by recent data and personal opinions, they believe that his policies and track record are more beneficial for their lives and the current state of the country. Harris may lead Trump by a slim margin in Pennsylvania, but nationally, Trump only trails her by 1.8%. With the election rapidly approaching, it is clear that these voters, along with many others, are looking at the facts and making their decision based on policies, not personality.
