Cory Mills Faces DOJ Probe as Nancy Mace Pushes Expulsion
Rep. Cory Mills, a Florida Republican, is reportedly under investigation by the Justice Department, according to reports from ABC News, The Washington Examiner, and MS NOW.
The exact focus of the federal probe is still not clear. ABC News reported that the investigation is at least partly tied to Mills’ finances, citing sources familiar with the matter.
MS NOW reported, “The Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation into Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., according to two sources familiar with the matter, adding to the mounting legal and ethical scrutiny facing the embattled congressman,”
The outlet also said, “The sources didn’t disclose the focus of the DOJ investigation. But a third source told MS NOW at least one person was contacted by the FBI last year about Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct and individuals in his orbit,”
The Washington Examiner also confirmed the investigation through a source familiar with the matter. The outlet noted that the DOJ did not respond to a request for comment. It also reported that Mills has faced accusations involving domestic violence, stolen valor, and financial misconduct. Mills has denied wrongdoing.
So far, there has been no public charge announced by the Justice Department. That matters. An investigation is not the same thing as a conviction, and the details here remain thin. Still, the reports add more pressure on Mills at a time when he is already facing serious scrutiny from inside his own party.
Earlier this year, Rep. Nancy Mace moved to expel Mills from Congress. Her public message was blunt: “Expulsion is the only acceptable outcome for Cory Mills.”

In April, Mills fired back at Mace and denied the allegations. He said, “This is a woman who continues to try and go after and attack people because she thinks it’s good for clickbait on social media, and for the simple concept of sensationalizing something that she can fundraise off of,”
