Rudy Giuliani Tells Lara Logan He Knew by Nightfall That January 6 Was a “Fixed Operation”
Rudy Giuliani gave Lara Logan a blunt account of January 6, 2021, during the American Martyrs premiere in West Palm Beach, Florida. The former New York City mayor and Trump attorney said he reached his conclusion before the night was over.
“It was a very unusual experience for me because, let me begin by telling you, by the time I went to sleep on the evening of January 6th, I knew exactly what was going on,” Giuliani told Logan. “I knew exactly that it was a fixed operation.”
Giuliani said he did not need Liz Cheney’s congressional committee, an Obama-era prosecutor or years of television commentary to decide what he believed had happened. His claim centered on the security failures surrounding the Capitol and the decisions made before and during the breach.
Logan pressed him on why the Capitol had been left so exposed. She told Giuliani that she had contacted Bernard Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner who later worked with Giuliani on the 2020 election files. Her question, she said, was simple and focused on law enforcement: If someone wanted to secure the Capitol that day, what would they have done?
According to Logan, Kerik’s answer was immediate: Put mounted officers around the building. Circle the Capitol on horseback. He told her that one mounted officer was worth about three officers on the ground. That deployment never happened, and Logan argued that many other standard security steps were also missing.
The account also cites security-related evidence and testimony. As Fox News reported, leaked footage filmed by Nancy Pelosi’s daughter captured the then-Speaker saying, “I take responsibility,” after the security breakdown. The source article also points to White House documentation that it says showed Pelosi refused an offer of 10,000 National Guard troops from President Trump in advance.
Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund has said he made 11 urgent calls for the Guard beginning at 12:58 p.m. and waited 71 minutes for approval from the House Sergeant at Arms, who reported to Pelosi. The account uses those details to raise a basic question: Was the Capitol simply overwhelmed, or was it left vulnerable through deliberate decisions?
When Logan asked Giuliani what convinced him that January 6 was an operation, he made another sweeping allegation about Barack Obama. Giuliani said he now agreed completely with General Flynn that “the darkest hours in American history is Barack Obama.”
“You know how they talk about an Antichrist? He’s an anti-president,” Giuliani said. “And I believe now all the things that I thought were exaggerated way back then, I believe he was flagrant.” He added, “As part of the communist plan… to overthrow us.” Those are Giuliani’s claims about Obama and the broader political forces he believes were involved.
Giuliani also described what he said he was doing during that week. He was still serving as Trump’s impeachment lawyer and was trying to persuade Vice President Mike Pence to pause the electoral count. Four state legislatures had written Pence asking him to wait, Giuliani said.
He described the Georgia and Pennsylvania packets as “ironclad.” Arizona, he said, was “very, very cozy.” Wisconsin was “a completely illegal election.” On Wisconsin’s absentee-ballot rules, Giuliani argued that missing affidavits should have canceled the votes.
“If you canceled all the votes that didn’t have an affidavit, Trump would have won,” he said. The Wisconsin Supreme Court called that penalty “too harsh.” Giuliani called the ruling “absurd.”
He made a similar argument about Pennsylvania. Giuliani said the state Supreme Court approved the counting of roughly 900,000 ballots without a Republican inspector being able to actually observe the count. One Republican inspector was in a room “the size of a basketball arena,” he said, and was treated as though he could see what was happening across the floor.
“One judge, the Republican, voted and said, you’re really reducing him to a potted plant,” Giuliani said. “And it’s an absurd decision.”
The interview presented Giuliani’s interpretation of January 6 as a combination of security failures, delayed Guard approval, disputed election procedures and a fight over Pence’s constitutional role. His central claim was clear: He believed by the end of that day that the operation had been fixed.
