Jennifer Siebel Newsom Stumbles When Asked if DOJ Probe Began Under Biden (VIDEO)
Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, had a rough moment during a recent MSNOW interview when the conversation turned to the federal investigation involving her husband.
The issue is simple. Newsom and his allies have tried to frame the probe as political payback from President Donald Trump. But host Stephanie Ruhle pressed Siebel Newsom on whether the investigation actually began while Joe Biden was still president.
That question clearly put her in a tight spot.
According to the New York Post, Siebel Newsom called the probe a “fishing expedition” during the interview. It was her first extended public response on the matter since Gov. Newsom revealed in June that there was a federal investigation tied to the couple.
When Ruhle asked directly about the timeline, Siebel Newsom did not offer much clarity.
“I don’t know the details,” she said after a pause.
She then tried to shift the focus back to Trump and suggested the former president had long been targeting her husband.
“I do know that Trump was coming after my husband when…back when Biden was president and Biden was running for the presidency.”
That answer did not exactly settle the matter. If anything, it raised more questions. If the investigation started under Biden, the claim that it is simply a Trump-driven political hit gets a lot harder to sell.
It was also notable that this question came on MSNOW, not some conservative outlet. That suggests even friendly media spaces may not be ready to just accept the Newsom camp’s talking points without asking basic follow-ups.

Ruhle also asked Siebel Newsom about another topic hanging over the California governor: whether he is planning to run for president in 2028.
That answer was not exactly crisp either.
Instead of giving a direct yes or no, she talked around the question and pointed to California, women, children, communities, and the state’s diversity.
“Um…I believe right now we are focused on California…I’ve been focused on women and children and communities…it’s really exciting to be in California, diversity is our secret sauce.”
That kind of answer will only feed more speculation. Newsom has been widely viewed as a possible 2028 Democratic contender, especially as the party looks for its next national figure. But moments like this show the road may not be as smooth as he hopes.
Newsom has built a national brand by picking fights with Republicans and presenting California as a model for the country. But questions about federal scrutiny, timing, and presidential ambition are not going away.
And if even friendly interviews are getting uncomfortable, the Newsom team may have a much bigger messaging problem than they want to admit.
