WATCH: Rick Scott Says Public Is Demanding Secure Elections
Sen. Rick Scott used a Fox News Sunday appearance to make the case for the SAVE America Act. The bill would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote and ID to cast a ballot in federal elections. Supporters say that is the kind of basic safeguard a lot of voters already expect.
On the interview, Shannon Bream pressed Scott on both elections and foreign policy. She asked, “Do we continue down that path? Is diplomacy worth it at this point?” Scott answered with a tough line on Iran and said the conflict has been going on far too long.
“First off, they have been killing us for 47 years. This President is one of the first ones to have stepped up and said this is going to end, and they are not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Scott said.
“I think we are doing the right thing. We are gonna give them a chance and if not, we are gonna have to continue to bomb them,” Scott continued.
“He doesn’t want to put troops in harm’s way. He doesn’t want to kill people. He has no interest in that, so he is giving them a chance, but if they don’t, they are not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Scott said.
Bream then turned back to the election fight and asked, “Do you think the President will get behind what the House passed, that version of the SAVE America Act?” She followed with, “Is he willing to compromise maybe on the House version?”
Scott said Trump made election security a key 2024 campaign issue and argued the push is coming from voters, not just politicians. “Well, first off, in the election ’24, Trump ran on securing the elections,” Scott said.
“The President is not doing this because it’s just his idea. He’s listened to what the American public is saying,” Scott continued.
He also said Americans overwhelmingly support the SAVE America Act and want secure elections. Scott closed by saying the issue is bigger than one bill or one interview. It is about trust in the system and whether lawmakers are willing to tighten the rules.
