Cam Newton Says Fake NFL Vaccine Cards Vindicated Aaron Rodgers

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton is backing up one of Aaron Rodgers’ most controversial claims from the COVID-19 era.

During his 4th & 1 program, Newton discussed Rodgers’ criticism of ESPN, the sports media, and the NFL’s handling of players during the pandemic. Newton said the league’s vaccination rules were not followed as closely as the public was led to believe.

“If we’re being honest,” Newton said, “there were multiple players, coaches, and executives that fraudulently got their COVID shot. Yes, I said it.”

Newton went further and said he personally knew people inside an NFL locker room who had not received the vaccine but still obtained vaccination cards. According to Newton, they paid for the cards to avoid the league’s requirements.

That claim directly supports what Rodgers said years ago. Rodgers faced intense criticism after challenging the NFL’s COVID protocols and explaining that he had pursued alternative treatment options. He also drew backlash after saying he was “immunized” rather than describing himself as vaccinated.

“A lot of people had probably FAKE vax cards back in the day too… I remember seeing some of the vax cards. It was like written in CRAYON.”

Rodgers was fined, and the Green Bay Packers received a $300,000 penalty after the controversy. At the time, reports estimated that 10 to 15 percent of NFL players may have been using fraudulent cards.

The league’s enforcement became especially visible after Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown and teammates were disciplined. NBC reported the following:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown was suspended for three games Thursday for violating the league’s Covid-19 protocols and misrepresenting his vaccination status, the NFL said.

Two other players were also suspended.

Brown and Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards were suspended without pay for the next three games, the NFL said in a statement. Free agent John Franklin III, if he is signed by the team, is also ineligible to play in the following three games.

Newton’s comments put fresh attention on the gap between the NFL’s public messaging and what may have happened behind the scenes. Rodgers was treated as a major problem for questioning the rules. Newton is now saying that some players, coaches, and executives found ways around those same rules.

The remarks also revive questions about how consistently the league’s COVID policies were applied. While Brown and others were publicly punished, Newton’s account suggests that the broader use of fake cards was not fully addressed.

Newton’s comments were shared in a video post discussing his allegations and Rodgers’ earlier statements.
