A man in Chicago was brutally beaten and robbed while eating pizza in broad daylight by two criminals. The incident, caught on camera, is just another example of the skyrocketing crime rates in the city, deemed an “active warzone” by the House Judiciary Committee. This is due to the progressive, soft-on-crime policies in place, turning the once beautiful city into a dangerous and lawless place.
The victim, a 33-year-old man, was walking in a residential area when two men attacked him from behind. They delivered a powerful punch to his head, causing him to collapse onto a chain-link fence. As the victim cried out in pain, the attackers continued to beat and kick him, eventually taking his belongings and calmly walking away. The witness who called the police revealed that the victim suffered bruises, but was otherwise okay.
This shocking attack is not an isolated incident in Chicago. Crime rates have increased by 29% this year alone, compared to the same period last year. Specifically, robberies have risen by 24%, showing the boldness of criminals in the city. This is not a recent phenomenon, as major crime has increased by a staggering 54% since 2019. It is clear that Chicago is a city being destroyed by rampant crime.
As if to further highlight the dire situation in Chicago, the House Judiciary Committee assembled in town the day after the Bucktown robbery. The meeting aimed to address the root cause of the crime epidemic in the city. Victims of violent crime, politicians, and law enforcement agents all shared their harrowing experiences with the committee.
One of the witnesses, retired Chicago police officer Carlos Yanez Jr., gave a chilling testimony about the handcuffs put on law enforcement by current policies and procedures. He recounted how his partner, Ella French, was killed during a traffic stop in the line of duty. Yanez Jr. also pointed out the revolving door of violent offenders, who are back on the streets, reoffending due to weak prosecution and the no-chase policy for police.
Gianno Caldwell, a contributor to Fox News and a political analyst, gave an impassioned speech to the committee. He shared his heartbreaking story of losing his baby brother to gun violence in June of 2022. Caldwell placed the blame on the decriminalization of offenses and prosecutors who refuse to do their jobs. In his passionate address, he pointed out that the victims of this lawlessness are mostly black, calling out the officials who have failed to protect their own communities.
It is clear that the crime epidemic in Chicago is not a coincidence. It is a direct result of the policies put in place by Democrat-run cities. The citizens of Chicago are suffering, and their lives are at risk due to the soft-on-crime culture that has taken over the city. If immediate action is not taken to address these issues, there will be more victims, more shattered families, and more innocent lives lost.
It is time to take a stand against this corrupt and dangerous system and bring back law and order to Chicago. Politicians HAVE to start supporting law enforcement and letting them enforce our laws.
