Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) may finally face accountability for her unprovoked assault on journalist Charles Downs, but interim US Attorney Ed Martin’s response has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the investigation. As reported by The Gateway Pundit, Downs, a correspondent for Loomer Unleashed, confronted Crockett in a Capitol hallway last Tuesday over her inflammatory remarks about Tesla and Elon Musk. Instead of answering, Crockett lashed out, attempting to snatch Downs’ phone and leaving visible scratches on his hand—a clear act of assault.
Despite Capitol Police allegedly referring the case to the US Attorney’s Office, Martin’s recent statement suggests otherwise. “As I have said from Day One, no one is above the law,” Martin posted on X. “The matter is currently under review by law enforcement authorities. If it is referred to the U.S. Attorney’s office, we will follow the proper procedures to determine whether charges are appropriate.”
This discrepancy has not gone unnoticed. Investigative journalist Laura Loomer quickly called out the inconsistency, writing, “His statement implied that the Capitol Police have not yet referred the police report to the US Attorney’s office, despite the fact that US Capitol Police told Charles Downs last week that they referred the police report to the US Attorney’s office. Why are the Capitol police lying?”

While peaceful January 6 protesters were brutalized—some even killed—for exercising their First Amendment rights, a sitting Democratic congresswoman appears to receive preferential treatment after committing an actual assault.
