Warsh Leaves Warren Flat-Footed

Warsh Leaves Warren Flat-Footed

Kevin Warsh walked into the Senate hearing looking calm, and he stayed that way. Elizabeth Warren did what she always does. She tried to turn a policy hearing into a trap. She pushed him to name one part of Trump’s economic agenda he disagrees with, like the whole point was to force a viral moment instead of get a real answer.

The hearing was supposed to be about the Federal Reserve, interest rates, and the economy. Instead, Warren went straight for the performance. Warsh did not give her the reaction she wanted. He answered with a joke, not a panic. That alone seemed to throw her off.

WARREN: Name one aspect of Trump’s economic agenda you disagree with.

WARSH: He said I’m ‘out of central casting.’ I’d look older, greyer and show up with a cigar of sorts.

*Clapping*

WARREN: Quite ADORABLE!

That moment made one thing clear. Warren was fishing for a clean shot, and Warsh refused to hand her one. He kept his cool and stayed on his feet while she tried to steer the exchange toward a cheap headline. In a room full of lawmakers, that kind of self-control can look like a win all by itself.

Sen. John Kennedy also stepped in and went after the bigger issue. He pressed Warsh on whether he would use his power to bail out friends if they got into trouble, pointing to the kind of bailout politics that have fueled anger in recent years. Warsh gave the short answer Washington sometimes hates most: “No, Senator”

There is still a bigger fight around the nomination. Sen. Thom Tillis says he is not moving ahead with a vote until the Department of Justice finishes its investigation into whether Powell made false statements about the Fed’s $2.5 billion construction project. So this hearing may end up being just one stop in a much longer battle.

For now, Warren’s usual routine did not land the way she wanted. Warsh stayed composed, kept the moment light, and refused to dance to her tune. That is why the clip traveled fast. People notice when a senator’s script falls apart.
