WATCH: Dashcam Shows Semi Jackknifing on 210 Freeway, Killing One Woman
Dashcam video shared with Eyewitness News shows the moments before a deadly crash on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale, California, on Saturday morning. The footage shows a semi-truck veering off the right shoulder, then crossing the center divider and hitting several vehicles.
The big rig eventually jackknifed, shutting down lanes on both sides of the freeway and leaving debris scattered across the roadway. Video shared on the Citizen app showed the aftermath, with damaged vehicles and wreckage spread across the scene.
Authorities said a 58-year-old woman died in the collision. Another 32 people were injured. Ten of those hurt were taken to hospitals, including six children. Officials have not released the driver’s identity.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at least three vehicles were involved in the pileup, but the exact number was still unclear. The crash caused major delays and turned a busy stretch of freeway into a mess of emergency crews, blocked lanes, and damaged cars.
This was not the only serious semi-truck crash to hit Southern California in recent months. Last October, a separate crash in Ontario killed three people and left several others badly hurt after a semi plowed into slowing traffic on a freeway. Eyewitnesses said that crash created a massive fireball after the driver failed to stop in time.
That earlier wreck involved eight vehicles, including four big rigs. An eyewitness said the driver, identified as Jashanpreet Singh, was going at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the vehicles. Singh was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
For drivers in the area, the latest crash is another ugly reminder of how fast a normal morning commute can turn dangerous when a large truck loses control.
