Um… Trigger warning? This was hard to read about and even harder to see but whistleblowers have come forward saying that the food being def to US Nation Guardsmen in Washington D.C. is making the soldiers sick. Several soldiers have reportedly confirmed the accusations and photo evidence pretty much seals the deal for me.
Just take a look for yourself:
According to The Detroit News, another soldier echoed those complaints in a letter to a lawmaker.
“Multiple soldiers have been getting sick and vomiting after eating, and most of the food is being thrown away,” one soldier wrote in a message to a lawmaker. “Morale is very bad; many have served overseas and cannot believe the quality of food they are being fed here.”
“Per the soldiers, the food issues have been remedied, but we are still looking into it as a team to see how this happened and ensure this doesn’t happen again. As he has made very clear, Rep. Bergman believes it’s past time to get our National Guard troops back home to Michigan,” Bergman’s Communications Director, James Hogge, told WLUC.
Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan was reportedly told of the issue by multiple soldiers during his visit with the troops at the Capitol. He publicly announced that it was time to bring the men and women guarding the Capitol home.
A whistleblower is telling 7 Action News nearly 75 meals were thrown out Sunday after metal shavings were found, other meals showed up undercooked making soldiers sick.
A staff sergeant with the Michigan National Guard, whose identity 7 Action News is protecting, says the problem is not isolated.
Michigan Senator Gary Peters, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, wants to cancel the contract with the D.C. food providers and supplement soldiers’ income instead.
“While I understand the ad hoc nature of these deployments and appreciate the tremendous efforts made by many of those under your command, it is simply unacceptable that these men and women are being fed chicken with the feathers still attached and raw ground beef and then, to add insult to injury, they are forced to purchase food with their own money,” Peters wrote in a letter to Acting Secretary of the Army John E. Whitley and General Daniel R. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard.
It’s almost as if Democrats have the National Gaurd members there ‘for the show’. Since arriving, the soldiers have been subject to series of neglect. Just in January, they were pushed from the cold hard cafeteria floors where they were sleeping and made to camp out in an actively-used parking deck where soldiers had nowhere to sleep and only one toilet.
Thanks to public outcry, that situation did not last and Democrats were forced to allow members back inside the main Capitol building. Ideally, these National Guard soldiers will be sent back to their state since they are so clearly unwelcome and not needed at the Capitol. If they have to keep our men and women away from home the least anyone can do is provide standard living conditions and safe edible food.
