WATCH: Biden Brags About Blocking Oil Drilling on Jay Leno’s Garage

Joe Biden is drawing attention after a clip from Jay Leno’s Garage showed him talking openly about limiting oil drilling. The appearance was taped in April and later started making the rounds online.

In the segment, Biden said, “The other thing I was able to do, I made sure there could be no oil drilling off the East Coast, the West Coast and 150 miles off the Gulf of Mexico [unintelligible] too,”

The comment landed in the middle of a bigger fight over America’s energy future. Biden’s administration had already taken a hard line on domestic drilling. In January 2025, one of his final acts as president was a permanent ban on offshore drilling across 625 million acres of U.S. ocean. He also blocked oil drilling on 10 million acres in Alaska in 2023 and canceled the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office.

For a lot of people, that is not a small policy shift. It hits workers, energy producers, and families who care about fuel prices and supply. Supporters of expanded drilling argue that the U.S. should be using its own resources instead of making life more expensive while relying on outside energy.

The optics of the clip also stand out. Biden was cruising in a vintage car with Jay Leno while talking about shutting down drilling. It is the kind of scene that practically writes its own reaction.

The episode was filmed in Los Angeles, where Biden and Leno were also spotted getting ice cream in La Cañada Flintridge during production. A post from Chris D. Jackson helped spread the moment online, adding another layer of attention to the segment.
